Worth the Journey: Rachel's Custom Mercedes Sprinter 144 Build
Some customers choose us because we're close to home. Others travel across borders because they know exactly who they want to build their van.
Rachel was one of those customers.
After discovering Andy's work on YouTube, Rachel followed Overland Interiors from her home in Maryland. When the time came to transform her Mercedes Sprinter 144 into a comfortable adventure van, she made the journey to our shop in Dundas, Ontario.
It's a level of trust we never take for granted.
Rachel wanted a van that felt bright, organized and easy to live in. It also needed to work for another important member of the travelling team - her dog, who joins her on every adventure.
The Challenge
Rachel wasn't looking for the biggest build or the most elaborate interior.
She wanted a van that simply worked.
Every cabinet needed a purpose. Every inch of space needed to be useful. And because her Sprinter was already equipped with the Adventure Wagon L-Track system, the furniture needed to integrate seamlessly while maintaining the flexibility that Adventure Wagon owners appreciate.
The goal was a clean, modern interior designed around the way Rachel actually travels.
The Solution
Rather than filling the van with furniture, we focused on creating a layout where every piece worked together.
Using our modular approach, we built an interior that provides generous storage, open living space and the flexibility to adapt as Rachel's adventures continue. The result is a camper van that feels spacious without sacrificing functionality.
Favourite Features:
Organized Rear Garage Storage

The raised bed platform creates a spacious rear garage while making room for our custom pull-out drawer and storage system underneath.
Recovery gear, camping equipment and everyday essentials all have a dedicated place, making it easier to stay organized whether she's heading out for a weekend escape or a longer road trip.
Comfortable Nights on the Road

Above the garage is a raised bed platform featuring our signature honeycomb ventilation panels, which promote airflow beneath the mattress while reducing unnecessary weight.
It's one of those small details that quietly improves comfort every night on the road.
Designed for Every Member of the Adventure

One of our favourite features wasn't designed for Rachel - it was designed for her dog.
Hidden neatly inside the rear cabinetry is a custom pull-out staircase that makes climbing into bed safe and easy before disappearing completely when not in use.
It's a simple idea, but one that perfectly reflects our belief that thoughtful design should make everyday life easier.
A Kitchen Ready for the Road
Whether it's morning coffee before a hike or dinner after a day of exploring, Rachel's custom kitchenette was designed to make life on the road feel effortless.
Featuring a black laminate countertop, integrated induction cooktop, sink and generous drawer storage, the space balances everyday practicality with clean, modern design.
Small Details Make the Biggest Difference

Travelling with a dog means planning for the little things.
A concealed pull-out feeding station keeps food and water bowls tucked neatly away until they're needed, helping keep the living space organized while making life easier for Rachel and her travel companion.
Sometimes the smallest features become the ones customers appreciate the most.
One Cabinet. Countless Uses.

Every cabinet inside a Sprinter 144 should work hard.
Rachel's custom cabinet combines refrigerator storage, a dedicated space for her Breville oven, electrical panel and additional storage for her dry flush toilet, all in one integrated cabinet.
By combining multiple functions into a single cabinet, the interior remains open, organized and ready for whatever the next adventure brings.
Ready for the Road
One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is watching our customers use the spaces we've built for them.
Rachel still shares photos from her travels, and seeing her Sprinter 144 out exploring reminds us why we love building custom camper vans.
Rachel, thank you for trusting Andy and the Overland Interiors team with your adventure. We can't wait to see where the road takes you next.
