Retirement Ready: A Custom Ram ProMaster Built for Two
The Customer
When Jamie, from Southwestern Ontario, retired, he and his wife purchased a brand-new 2024 Ram Promaster 2500 with one goal in mind - to spend the winter escaping Canada's cold weather and exploring together.
Like many couples, they also had a few unique requirements. They wanted a layout that would allow each of them to sleep comfortably while still preserving the option of sharing the space whenever they chose. Rather than compromise, Andy designed a solution that offered both flexibility and comfort.
When the van was complete, they packed their belongings and headed straight to Florida to spend time with close friends before slowly making their way back home.
The Challenge
Creating a layout that offered independent sleeping without making the interior feel cramped was the biggest design challenge.
Storage also needed to be generous enough for extended travel, while the kitchen, electrical system and living space all had to work together seamlessly.
Jamie also wanted the clean, modern appearance that Overland Interiors is known for without sacrificing practicality.
The Solution
Rather than designing the interior around fixed furniture, Andy designed it around the way Jamie and his wife wanted to travel.
The result is a bright, flexible layout that combines two comfortable single sleeper beds, a customized kitchenette, generous storage, and a professionally designed off-grid electrical system- all while maintaining an open, uncluttered feel throughout the van.
By adapting two of our proven modular cabinetry systems to Jamie's floor plan, we were able to create a truly custom interior without sacrificing the craftsmanship, durability, and functionality that define every Overland Interiors build. Every inch of the space has a purpose, making the van equally suited for quick weekend getaways or months of exploring North America.

Flexible Twin Sleeping System
The centrepiece of the build is the pair of customized single sleeper beds.
Each bed incorporates deep dovetail drawers below, providing an incredible amount of storage for clothing, bedding and travel gear.
When the couple prefers to sleep separately, each has a dedicated sleeping space. When they'd rather share a larger bed, a custom-built centre platform quickly bridges the aisle to create one larger sleeping surface.
It's a thoughtful solution that adapts to the way they travel rather than forcing them to adapt to the furniture.
Customized Cabinetry
Although this build features two of our most popular modular products - the 54-inch Kitchenette and our 5-Drawer Storage Cabinet - neither cabinet is exactly as you'll find it in our ready-to-install collection.
Both pieces were thoughtfully customized to suit Jamie's floor plan and the way he and his wife planned to travel. By adapting proven designs rather than starting from scratch, Andy was able to create a layout that feels completely bespoke while maintaining the durability, craftsmanship, and functionality that Overland Interiors is known for.
One of the greatest advantages of our modular cabinetry system is its flexibility. Many of our cabinets can be resized, reconfigured, or adapted between high-roof and low-roof vans, allowing us to create interiors that look and function like custom builds while benefiting from years of design refinement.
Warm, Bright Interior
A camper van should feel just as welcoming at the end of a long day as it does when you first set out on the road.
To create that feeling, we combined a premium birch plywood slat ceiling, upholstered Duramax wall panels, custom birch trim, and Lonseal's Lonridge Smoky Black flooring to give the interior a warm, modern aesthetic that's both durable and easy to maintain. The natural wood tones contrast beautifully with the darker finishes, creating a bright, inviting space that feels larger than its footprint.
Comfort starts long before the cabinetry is installed. Before beginning the interior, we insulated the van using Thinsulate and Duck Liner to improve thermal performance, reduce road noise, and make the space more comfortable in every season - from cool Canadian mornings to sunny afternoons in Florida.
The result is an interior that doesn't just look beautiful. It feels calm, comfortable, and ready for wherever the road leads next.
Built for Off-Grid Adventures
One of Jamie's priorities was the freedom to travel wherever the road led without relying on campgrounds or electrical hookups. To make that possible, this ProMaster was equipped with a professionally installed 400Ah off-grid electrical system by our trusted partners at Off Grid Overland, providing reliable power for cooking, lighting, charging devices, and everyday comforts while exploring.
Combined with efficient insulation, thoughtful storage, and a flexible interior layout, the electrical system transforms the van from a weekend camper into a true home on wheels - ready for everything from short escapes to months of retirement travel across North America.
Ready for the Road
Jamie and his wife picked up their completed Promaster and headed south shortly afterwards, beginning the next chapter of their retirement with a camper van designed specifically for the way they wanted to travel. From comfortable twin sleeping arrangements to thoughtfully customized cabinetry and a warm, inviting interior, every detail was created to make life on the road feel effortless.
Whether they're spending a weekend exploring Ontario or escaping to Florida for the winter, they now have a camper van that's ready for wherever retirement takes them.
With the cabinetry complete, the insulation finished, the off-grid electrical system installed by Off-Grid Overland, and every storage space thoughtfully designed, Jamie and his wife wasted no time putting their new camper van to work.
Instead of taking it home, they left our shop and pointed the van south, making their way to Florida to spend time with close friends before enjoying a relaxed journey back through the eastern United States and Canada.
