Transforming a 4Runner for the Backcountry: A Toronto Customer’s Build
For many of our customers, their vehicle is more than just transportation — it’s a launchpad for adventure. That was exactly the case with a recent build for a Toronto-based customer who wanted to turn his everyday Toyota 4Runner into a mobile basecamp.
The Vision
An avid drone videographer and nature lover, our customer needed a setup that could:
- Handle rugged, off-road terrain
- Provide a comfortable place to sleep
- Securely store delicate gear like drones and cameras
- Avoid any permanent modifications to the vehicle
The Build
We adapted one of our most popular van layouts to suit the 4Runner:
- Single Bed Platform: Designed for comfort and airflow with built-in ventilation
- High-Quality Materials: Made from premium birch plywood, finished in an antique black wash (natural option available), and sealed with a durable epoxy coating
- Integrated Storage: Two deep, side-by-side drawers beneath the platform offer easy access and organization for everything from camping gear to videography equipment
Adventure-ready!
With this setup, our customer can now head straight from Toronto to the backcountry — whether it’s a weekend in Algonquin or an off-grid shoot in rugged terrain. His 4Runner is no longer just a daily driver; it’s a fully functional, adventure-ready basecamp.
